hey, check me out

I'm in a newsletter!

He asked for a photo of me so he could publish it in his newsletter. I gave him a link to my picasa album, told him to pick any picture he wanted. I guess this was his favorite.

The caption:

12/04 –Steve Tursi #729 (Suffern, New York): When Steve created his running schedule for the year, he really had no intention of joining the Maniacs but now that his streak of 3 marathons in 90 days (Self-Transcendence, Breakers and Philadelphia) is complete, he said…what the heck, why not be Insane! Steve also ran the 2006 Las Vegas Marathon to give him 4 completed in his lifetime, all run in different states.

random thoughts about california.

Joey didn't do bad this Christmas

I didn't post the whole time I was in CA. Now that I'm back, you can expect this to be updated more frequently again.

  • A month is way too friggin long to spend in California. Thank god I'm back.

  • Rock Band and Guitar Hero should be called Crack Band (or, as so elegantly put in South Park, Guitar Addict is to be replaced by Heroin Addict. "You'll never catch the dragon, dad.")

  • Carne Asada Burritos from Albertos are just a deliciously filthy as ever. The hard chunks of gristle in the meat are especially satisfying at 2 in the morning.

  • The Tram road in Palm Springs - gain about a half-mile in elevation, in 3.7 miles. My goal was to do it in under and hour, pushed really hard and pulled off 58 minutes.

  • Single Malt Scotch, Cigars, and Poker with my old california friends, especially chad, the most pious Christian I've ever met.

  • Skiing mammoth and annihilating my bases, as snowcover was relatively thin by mammoth standards. They got a huge storm two days after I left. Skied with the guy who taught me how to ski, at the place I was taught to ski - only now, I could hang with him on the steep stuff.

  • Ran all the way to the water tower on Mount Arlington, the giagntic pile of dirt next to my parent's house.

  • Gained about 25 lbs. half is water weight. there's no way to sugarcoat this. 25 lbs in a month is pretty hard core. There will be more thoughts on this in my next post, but suffice it to say that I'm not sure it wasn't worth it. Stay tuned.
  • Working in California but staying on New York time - from 6am to 2pm, rather than 9-5, was nice. I had so much time after work that I felt like I was not working.

269.8

I added four more state highpoints in 2007, bringing my total to 28. My highpointing site

Hi everyone,

On Tuesday, I broke through an unexpectedly elusive weight barrier - 270 - and saw for the first time a 26 in the beginning of my weight. I celebrated by going to Albany and eating like a pig at my company's christmas party. Now it's Thursday, I'm back to 269.8, and I'm going to use the two days I have left before leaving for California to try to drop to 265. Missing my goal by 5 lbs sounds a lot better than missing it by 10. 259, the threshold where my BMI index goes from obese to overweight, seems deceptively close, but with the way my schedule looks, it doesn't seem likely that I'll hit it in 2007, but rather January 2008. That doesn't mean it's impossible and I won't shoot for it, but I'm not counting on it either..

Not much more to write, so I'm going to keep this post short and sweet.
